Hey Gals!
I finally got around to making over some terracotta
pots for a few favorite herbs!!
I really had fun with this little project!
I've seen a lot of numbered pots, and figured
I'd give making some a try!

Here is what I used:
I purchased several pkgs. of the plant markers from
Michael's at the onset of Spring, and painted the name
Michael's at the onset of Spring, and painted the name
plate with 2-3 coats of chalkboard paint. And at the last minute
I decided to use black paint on the bottom which isn't pictured.
I applied everything but the glaze with foam brushes.
On my Cricut machine, I cut out the numbers 1, 2, 3 to use as stencils.
If you don't have a Cricut, there are plenty of number stencils
available in Michael's and JoAnn.

Started with a plain pot and added the Ivory white acrylic paint.
This took 2-3 coats to cover properly. At first I was going to leave
the top edge as is, and then changed my mind later. Let it dry
completely between coats!
I got the Raw Umber stain from Lowe's for another project, and
used it to give a little weathered look to the pots.
I just dabbed it on with a paper towel and wiped off the excess
until I was happy with it.

Well, what do ya think?
I stenciled the numbers with
black acrylic paint. Wish I had made them a bit
larger, though. And I am so proud of myself for letting
the little imperfections in the numbers slide!!
That is sooo not like me, but as my interior decorator
grandmother, Mama Rose, always said,
"It won't be noticed on a galloping horse!!"
"It won't be noticed on a galloping horse!!"
Sure did love her!! What a loving and talented lady she was!!
I am showing this pot so you can see the little warts that happened
when I failed to let the paint cure overnight on pot 2 and 3.
I popped a couple of them but there are some tiny ones left on
I popped a couple of them but there are some tiny ones left on
the right . Some were about 1/3 of an inch!
The Basil and Rosemary seem to be content in their new homes,
but the Cilantro is a bit wimpy!! May have to get another plant.
I may go large and transplant these in big pots with some others
so I have an abundant supply to use!
Nothing quite like fresh herbs to jazz up a meal!
I'll probably be doing more pots!!
I'll post when I do!
Have a wonderful Friday, lovely friends!
Becky
Ooooo!! I love them!! And yes, I struggle to let imperfections slide too!!! I rip out my crocheting waaayyy to often for small mistakes - but it's hard for me to know they are there. I'm proud of you for letting go!! Grandma's are so wise aren't they!! Both of mine are in heaven and boy, do I miss them!! Both were Godly women. I use all three herbs you planted frequently - they are so yummy!!
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Christine
Adorable!! I think the "mistake" of not letting dry has given it a wonderful patina!
ReplyDeleteLove these Aunt Becky!!! Too cute. NO, there is nothing like having fresh herbs close by to pick and use. Just today while mom was here and we were enjoying our yummy lunch in the shade on the patio I walked over and snipped some mint to put in our ice water. Mama Rose was so right!!!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the look of these, right on down to the contrasting black pot trays. It looks just perfect. I love fresh herbs and used to grow mine in pots years ago. I need to do it again. Yours are lovely!
ReplyDeleteAnd...I'm trying so hard not to covet people's cricuts.
LOVE what you did here! I adding wording to mine but they did not do well for me indoors. So I now have more outside that are doing great. Its funny but I remember to water much more outdoors then in. Great post
ReplyDeleteI think these pots turned out perfectly! I love everything about them! Nice job!
ReplyDeleteBecky~

Love, love, love them!!! You did a great job. And I'm sure the cilantro will come around and decide to like his new home!!
ReplyDeleteYour story on the driver's license is just too funny! Glad you're not breaking the law anymore!
Good Morning Becky, these pots are really cute! I love that "old look"! just about on anything. Good job. I just have never had any luck with herbs, they start out really pretty and then just begin to look "sickly".Of course I'm no pro-gardner either, but I like to play with all the potted stuff!! Have a great week-end! It is going to be really hot in Texas! Hope you are a little cooler!!in your space!!:)
ReplyDeleteThese are so great, Becky! Whoever came up with this number thing has struck gold, don't you think? I am smitten whenever I see them. Great job! I love your grandmother's idea bout decorating! It helps us to get over the perfection idea and just go with the flow!
ReplyDeleteLove you!
Bonnie
