Our youngest daughter Maddy, who is now 11, is getting a room makeover! She has been so patient with her Mom. When we moved in here four years ago she asked for her room to be redone, but I told her it was not very high up on the list of priorities because it was cute and in good condition…plus we needed to sod, take down a 50 ft. tree, and put in an irrigation system!!
Well, we are finally getting around to her room!!
It will go from this rather juvenile print which is under the chair rail along with the pink gingham check, and pale pink above it….
To something “French inspired” like this
Or this!!
We have all white furniture but want to paint it creamy cottage white like the bed in the above photo (photos from hgtv)
She hasn’t decided on a wall color yet. We’ll leave the chair rail, but paint it the creamy white, I think. Any ideas for colors above and below the chair rail?? We’re open to suggestions! We bought her an espresso brown quilted comforter when she wanted a more natural theme, and I will either use that and just glam it up a bit or make a duvet cover for it. It just depends on the wall colors.
But, this is my biggest question…how did she grow up soooo fast? She is an absolutely delightful young lady that just lights up my days…oh how I wish time would just pause for awhile sometimes…you know?
She still snuggles with me and Randy which is wonderful, but I can see the little girl is almost gone. Oh my tender mother’s heart can hardly stand it!
Well, Love and big toasty hugs to you all today! We are trying desperately to keep warm down here in my sunny but freezing state!! I can’t even begin to imagine dealing with weather like this all winter like some of you frosty friends do!!
Stay COZY!!!
Love Ya!!
Becky
Love the picture ideas! I think it's great that she so wants to be grown up but yet still loves to cuddle. Can't wait to see the end result.
ReplyDeleteI'm alive! Trying my best to adjust to this coming year with hubby. Been a little lazy blogging, but thought I'd stop by and say hi!!!
Try and stay warm. We're barely getting out of the teens up here today!
Oh Becky can you believe this COLD weather!!!
ReplyDeleteI am in Southeast Texas and our winters are pretty much like yours. Well it is still pretty much like your weather...woke up to 29 degree's! brrr! The sun is out and it is very pretty outside...just really cold!!
Ah we are planning to redo Shelby's (age15) room soon as well. I like both the pictures you have posted and I think any young lady would love either room. As for the color...I think I would use her favorite color and just make it very soft. Or go with white and accent with the colors she chooses.
I don't know how they grow up so fast...but I agree she does indeed seem to be a very sweet young lady. She has a very beautiful smile...like her moms.
Becky, I love the pink! You know me and whimsy, but I understand she wants a more "grown up" room.
ReplyDeleteOkay, I would suggest a blue (Watery from Sherwin Williams looks pretty) or a turquoisey color from Benjamin Moore. OR I would suggest doing it in pink again. Either looks sharp with brown.
Hugs to you...
XO,
Sheila :-)
how fun! i can't wait to see the makeover complete! i can't believe your weather either! i just checked the temps in Sarasota and it's 48 degrees. that is unreal! that's my wonderfully hot beachy vacation spot. it's not supposed to get cold like that!
ReplyDeleteBecky, how I LOVE to re-do a room. One of my favorite things to do as a matter of fact. If she is keeping the brown comforter there is many different colors that look great with that. I am thinking either hot pink (more big girly) or even turquoise (I am still having a spelling problem...I think this is right haha) are both good choices. When we did Mel's room over for the last times (she was around 16) she had it of course until she moved out. It was done in lavenders and mint greens. We both loved it. Have fun doing this project and I will be watching and waiting to see the progress along the way. How I envy you still having a little 11 year old still at home to cuddle with and fuss over. Hugs to you, Debbie
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun project. The theme she has picked out is just gorgeous! I know the feelings of the toughts of your child growing up. Even though Mary is only 3, my mind drifts at times to when she is grown and I quickly yank my thoughts back. I just am enjoying her as she is right now. What a precious gift children are!! Have a wonderful day dear friend. Hugs, Elena
ReplyDeleteHi Becky,
ReplyDeleteI am so looking forward to seeing what you and Maddy do with her makeover. Loved your ideas.
And Yes they do grow up so fast, I had the same conversation with Susan over the Holidays. She is already missing those girls. and they are only 7& 9.. lol just continue to enjoy her and stack up those memories.
Hope your week is filled with much joy.
Sue
Hi Becky,
ReplyDeleteI like the first room the best but both are lovely. That's so nice of you to re-do your young daughter's room - she's a young lady now and needs something more grown up. My 16 year old niece just re-did her room in hot PINK. She loves pink probably because she didn't have a pink room as a child. Definitely let your daughter choose the colors she wants. Have fun decorating it.

Maddy is a lucky girl!
ReplyDeleteAnd so sweet to be so patient!
I love the dusty pink in the first picture, it's so elegant looking! All great ideas.
Enjoy!
Love to you,
Eileen
Dear Becky, I have been trying to get back to you all day. We have been in and out for errands then I took a long nap. Laundry going and taking down Christmas. Whew.
ReplyDeleteI am getting ready do do an antique show in Atlanta with my sisters. A totally unplanned event. The show is four days. My sister called me Sunday late to ask me if I wanted to help them and sell a few things of my own. Oh Joy, I do have things to sell. I leave for Atlanta in the am. It is so cold here we are freezing when we have to go outside. What happened to global warming?
There is nothing I enjoy more than doing a makeover in any room. How wonderful to re-do your sweet daughter's room. I love what you have done for her already. But now, oh yes, she needs a more grown up look. Your inspiration pics are very pretty. Brown is a huge color right now and blue is a popular color with the brown. You have the comforter as your inspiration, so go from there. I love cottage white too. I know it will be a room your dtr. will be proud of. You already have great ideas.
We will talk about our blogger get together after I return on Sun. night. The date is March 19th or close to it. I am very excited about our plans for this meeting. We will talk via cyberspace and plan way ahead.
Happy decorating and hoping some sunshine and warmth will come soon.
Love and hugs with lots of blessings, Jeanne
It is so weird how they grow up so fast! A bedroom re-do sounds like a great project for the winter months. Can't wait to see how it turns out!
ReplyDeleteValerie
Congrats Maddy! Lucky girl!
ReplyDeleteIf it were me, I would go with a wall color similar to the second room. It keeps the room light and airy without sucking all the light out of it. I'm all about keeping the light in a room. And it would still go great with the comforter.
Keep us up on what you decided!
Hugs!
Karfee
Oh I just love everything about the first "re-do" picture! It's just beautiful! :)
ReplyDeleteFour years? It can't be!
ReplyDeleteWow, time is flying by and I feel like I'm standing still...or rather sitting still!
Let me know when you want to get the white desk.
Love you lots. =)
The room is going to look gorgeous. Its so true the grow up so fast. My son is 12 years old size 11 feet!!(huge) anf stands 5 foot 8 inches. I am now the shortest in the family all bar the dog lol.
ReplyDeleteHi Becky,
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year! I have missed reading your posts, but I am now able to catch up with you.Thank you so much for caring about me, you are just the sweetest!
What a fun Mom and Daughter project to do togethere, I remember decorating my daughters rooms with them, we had so much fun!
I am looking forward to seeing what you both create for the new grown up look.
Big hugs,
Hi Becky, I really don't know where the time goes as kids grow up. I blinked and mine are all out of the nest, though not too far away, thank goodness.
ReplyDeleteI love the direction you're going with Maddy's room and can't wait to see the photos when it's done. Have a great time in the process!
My Sweet Becky.....
ReplyDeleteOh how I know about the growing girl thing........It broke my heart too.....It seemed like I'd send her to school and she'd come home older every day.......I LOVED being a mom.....well, I still am, but she's quite grown up now.......nearly THIRTY NINE!!!! How did that ever happen? And, after all, I'M only thirty nine, right? :-)
I love both of the pictures of ideas..........How I would have loved a room like that when I was a girl. So lovely and feminine. I'm sure she'll love whatever you do. My living room is pink and black and I LOVE it......It's a pretty combination, I think. I can't wait to see it all finished.....What a lucky girl...
Thank you so much for your dear words of encouragement....for my boy. I am crazy about him......and would go to the moon and back if he asked me to. I waited so long for him and he's been such a delight......... I laugh now.....I was CERTAIN my daughter would have a girl. CERTAIN......and was so surprised when he was born. I was disappointed for about 10 seconds and have been more than delighted ever since then. He sure is interesting. :-)
Big, big hugs to you! And, Happy New Year too....
Huggies,
S
So nice to hear from you Becky! I love the fresh spring header and the clean white and pink room! Just makes you want to go snuggle with a blanket and tea. Such a happy, joyful spirit on your blog and I enjoy it! God bless you with even more for 2010!
ReplyDeleteLove Robin
Hi Becky! I think you know how I feel. My sweet daughter just moved out and now has her own apt. It is such a mixed bag. Since she is my second best friend (hubs is first) I miss her soooo much. But I am so proud of her. It slips by so fast doesn't it.
ReplyDeleteTreasure every moment!

Good Morning, Becky!

wow, she's one lucky girl. We're about to redo our daughters room too, maybe I'll share that.
ReplyDeleteCan't remember where I found your blog, but I'll be back!
Sounds like a fun project, Becky!
ReplyDeleteSounds like fun, Becky! My daughter started wanting a more grown-up room about that age, too. We just need to savor our kids whatever age they are, huh! Their years at home go way too fast! Thanks for your comments on Elena's blog about the ballerina bunny. Can't take credit, though! That was our sister, Linda's, beautiful work! My New Year's resolution is to restart my blog. I have missed you too!;-)
ReplyDeleteIt is incredibly cold out isn't it?
ReplyDeleteWanna come haul bucketfuls of water to puddleducks who hate icecubes? lol
I love MADDIES new room ideas. I'm 45 and would love to have a room like that. Can't wait to see what it looks like when you're done. I think she NEEDS a chandelier hanging above her bed. I've been looking for an antique one for our room but so far, we have a lightbulb. lol AINT that grand? heehee
STAY WARM SONSHINE!
and KEEP MY ORANGES WARM TOO K?
Smoochy holykisses,
Lea
