Would You, Could You, Jump From a Plane?

First I want to say

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!!!

To all of you wonderful bloggin' moms out there!!
May your day be filled with love, joy, and special
SURPRISES!!

****************************************

Now I would like to share a little something
about myself that you don't know yet...

I have a not-so-secret desire to skydive!!!

Yes!! You heard it right!! I want to be
attached to an experienced jumper, go up
in a plane til we reach 13500 feet, jump out
with said jumper...

FREEFALL 9000 ft., and then feel us get
jerked upward as the chute is pulled
and we float gracefully through the bright
blue sky and begin to descend
down to our designated landing spot.

Awesome!!!!

NOT SO FAST THERE, BECKY!!!

Well, I was going to do a tandem jump for
my 40th birthday. Only problem was when my
birthday rolled around, I was 7 1/2 mos PREGGO!!

Someone said to me then "God is just trying to keep
you from doing something really stupid!"

Ever since then, I have lost my nerve!!

However...

Whenever I am up in the Deland area, about
20 minutes north, I like to go watch other people
jump if I have the time.

Today my niece and I did have some time, so
we went. She had never seen them jump before.

This is Skydive Deland!! It is suppose to
be the premier skydive spot in North America.
Teams come from around the world to practice
here. I've watched the teams and it is so cool!!

The jumpers fly in right over your head, and
you can hear their chutes flapping in the wind.
I just love it!! Lots of people go just to watch
(or they're trying to work up the nerve to jump!!)

Here is a guy named Dave as he was descending.
Jumping is his hobby, but he has considered
joining a jumping team.

Here is Dave after he nailed his landing
and gathered up his chute.
He was nice enough to indulge this ol' gal
and discuss jumping with me. He has jumped
over 600 times and speaks confidently of the safety
of this sport. He encouraged me in my fitness
pursuit, and said that you are never too old to jump!!
(I don't know about that but I liked hearing it!!)

So... any of my girls out there wanna join me
if I can work up the nerve???

They video your whole ride down, too, and
you get to keep it!!

WOULD YOU, COULD YOU,
JUMP FROM A PLANE????

Please do tell!!!!

Have a joyful day!!

Becky

  1. Augh! I don't want to jump from a airplane, but I DO have a desire to experience the pre-jump training of the giant fan which makes you float in the air, simulating the weightless feel of sky-diving without the whole 'falling' sensation! I'll do it someday, and I'll have someone video me! I'm guessing I may have a couple of not-so-little-anymore fellows who would be right there with me in line, to cheer me on and have a go themselves!

  2. Ok Becky,,, I can understand wanting to do something crazy however, SKYDIVING??? ... Sorry can't say I have the same crazy desire as you. I am afraid of heights... Needless to say I have spent most of my life making the comment that if God wanted me to fly he would have given me wings... ha ha. I do however wish this for you if it is your dream then go for it. .... I would love to see your video. Much love on a wonderful Mother's Day. You deserve the best. Much Love - Jaime

  8. Not me honey! My fear of death is too strong. And I'm afraid of heights. John teases me. Just watching, like Cliffhangers, makes me knees knock together.

    But you have at it!!!!

  9. O.k. my friend, I've gone gliding in a plane and ziplining and always wanted to skydive when I was younger...if I thought I could do it without hurting my back, getting motion sick in the plane or freaking out I bet you could talk me into it. Of course my heart might give out though-so I'll just choose to watch with you.
    Love you.

  12. Do it, sweetie - it's more fun than a box of chocolates that you don't have to share!!! I have done it three times and the first time I was 32 years old and a month pregnant (didn't know it) so now my youngest daughter always tells people she has one skydive, too!! Went on to jump twice more, once was a sunset jump......awesome to see God's painting from 14000 feet!!! Have fun!!! Blessings, Marji

Good luck to you though- I say go for it if that is your dream. Sounds like they pretty much have it down to a science. Well, maybe. Don't want anything bad to happen to you though!

    Have a great day!

  15. Becky, there would be no way I could ever do that!!! Are you seriously still thinking? I think if you do, you should post the video here on your blog! What a great post that would make! I hope you had a great Mother's Day and you enjoyed time with your family!

  16. Hi Becky, gosh I didn't realize you were near Deland. My mom grew up in Daytona Beach and a good deal of family still live in Ormond Beach. Small world. My grammy lives about 5 minutes from the speedway.
Have you ever seen one of those sky dive videos? I had a friend at work do it and he let us watch the video becuase it was so funny. Not because of his reaction but because of the G force against his skin as he was falling. Well it made the fat on his face wrinkly up and flap. It was pretty hysterical and I said nobody would ever video tape me unless I was stick think, ha ha. Beware. Now, I have no clue what size you are, I was just putting it out there. It was pretty funny. He looked like one of those wrinkly dogs. I think you are a very brave lady. I get scared on a ladder!!

  17. Never - I get sick on a ferris wheel!

However . . . if you do decide to do it, you have to post the video!

  18. I have flown in many a small aircrafts and commercial jets. I have been at many, many Airports, where sky jumpers were going up for the first time to 100+ times. I have been at Many,Many Airport's where the military were training to jump. I always had to stay in contact every minute with the aircrafts, and our pilots, to say JUMPERS AWAY! To let our pilots know not to come in to the airport until all were on the ground. I seen many, many great jumpers and many many get hurt. No! I would not jump! I hope you take the jump! For you may fall in love with it! I seen too much for me to jump! lol GO FOR IT!

  20. Dearest Becky - not in a million years!! Not if my tail was on fire!!! Not if the only way back to earth was out that door!! I think you are either one of the most courageous women I have ever known, or totally insane!! But if you have always wondered, and it is something you would love to try then I think it's better to do it than always wonder 'what if!'

Love and prayers to you all this week. Hope you are having a busy and productive time and checking things of that 'to-do' list!

    Love Fiona x

  21. Sorry not me, Becky. I have a hard time flying because of my fear of heights and falling. Hmmm, skydiving would give me a fatal heart attack. But I am all for it for you if you would like it. I am getting better in the air though so I am making a lot of progress in giving my fear over to my faith.

Who is sponsoring your redesign course? I did IRIS and was very satisfied. I love the work but it is not easy. I love it when people say...oh I'd love your job...just like playing....ahhh...no! Not really but it is very fun and rewarding. Go for it!

  22. No I wouldn't couldn't shouldn't!!! And when you hear the parachutes flapping can you hear them screaming too?! It's a good thing I love and respect you already, otherwise I'd think you were C-R-A-Z-Y! But you do have me thinking about something I've never considered...and I hope you get to do it...can you just promise to be REALLY careful so we don't lose you?!

  23. Becky,

I am one of those people who would love to do it...but know full well that I'd never go through with it. I HATE being a chicken!lol My husband however would do it in a heart beat.

  24. Hi Becky,
Have to say I was quite surprised to hear you
want to sky dive, I think when I was younger
I thought it would be neat, don't know if I
would ever have gone thru with it, cause I'm a
pretty cautious person. Now that I am 57 I definitely think I will pass, I want to be able
to get around in my old age, no broken hips or
    anything!! ha
Have a great evening and a good weekend!!
    Love ya, Nellie
