Morning Has Broken

{sidenote:  I have tried to fix the format of this post
numerous times to no avail!!  Back to Windows Live
Writer for me!!}

This morning, I took my Bible and my Streams in the Desert
devotional book and sat out on our front porch to greet
the new day with my Lord.

The sky was overcast, and a light mist was in the air, similar
to this lovely photo, but a mist not fog.

I was feeling so very scattered,
like I was just
all over the place!
Do you ever feel like that??
I am getting over being sick, had a major sneezing fit
upon wakening, and woke to

to dishes in the sink...
bills to pay...
school with Maddy...
work in my shop...

I knew I needed some time contemplating;
contemplating the beauty of the morning, and the
great love of the God who gives breath to each new day.

Have you done that lately?

I watched as the cool breeze fluttered the fronds on
my little palm tree I love so much;

And watched and listened as all sorts of birds flew
by, and were chirping in the surrounding trees and bushes,

I sat and drank it all in....like a wonderful refreshing drink
from a spring fed well, all the while

praising God for the beauty He created for us to enjoy.

What an amazing love He has for us!
The beautiful gold He shines down on all of nature...He shares the
wonderful light of His glory, and gives us joy in the partaking.

Oh! I could get lost in it for hours!!!

But alas, a new day, and things to accomplish.

It simply couldn't have started off any better!
Time surrounded by His creation, meditating on His Word,
seeking His direction for the hours that fill my day...

God is so good!!

I leave you this morning with the lyrics to a wonderful song.

It was written as a hymn in 1931 by Eleanor Farjeon .
You might recognize it, as it was recorded by
Cat Stevens prior to his conversion to
another religion.

It is so lovely, and a sweet picture of God's love
displayed in all He created.

Morning Has Broken

Morning has broken,
like the first morning
Blackbird has spoken,
like the first bird
Praise for the singing,
praise for the morning
Praise for the springing
fresh from the Word
Sweet the rain's new fall,
sunlit from heaven
Like the first dew fall,
on the first grass
Praise for the sweetness
of the wet garden
Sprung in completeness
where His feet pass
Mine is the sunlight,
mine is the morning
Born of the One Light, Eden saw play
Praise with elation, praise every morning
God's recreation of the new day!!

  2. What a wonderful post Becky! I know exactly what you mean. I too started my morning with the Lord, but we had a fog as thick and wet as pea soup so I spent it in the comfort of my warm and dry home! I found a blog yesterday you may be interested in reading. Amy and her sister Mary just started an online Bible Study. If you visit my blog you will see the button for it on my sidebar.

    Hugs,
    Tracy

  5. Hi Miss Becky,
good to see you post hon. What a lovely post it is as well. I love love love that song!!
I just came in from sitting in the sun for a few
minutes and it was divine, like apples in a silver bowl you might say. I was checking out the yard
for any surprise treasure and everywhere everything was dead mostly, but then I looked down
by my chair and treasure. Tons and Tons of acorns many with their caps still on, so neat,
some caps fell off when I picked them up, perhaps I might glue them back on they are so lovely. I brought a bunch in.......just could not resist, love God's lil gifts!!
    Glad you are feeling better!
    Talk with you soon hon,
    Love ya, Nellie

  6. Yes, many mornings I begin scattered and all over the place. Trouble getting my thoughts wrapped around the day. It is so true that my day goes better and smoother if I start out with Him on my mind and in my heart. Thanks for sharing this lovely post.
    Glad you are feeling better.
    Hugs,
    Tara

  7. Awesome reminder Becky. Contemplation before facing bills, laundry, sneezing, etc. etc is ALWAYS better!

  8. Most mornings I wake up feeling out of sorts until I wash myself in Gods word. I remember a retired pastor talking about the ocean (the word of God) and have we swam in it today?
God is so Good and Kind to us.

  9. What a beautiful and heartfelt post Becky, thoughts that a lot of us are feeling, and then to know where the answer lies. I truly love to hear this song sung, but to sit and read the lyrics is even better for me. Stay healthy, I am trying but find it gets harder as I get older. lol
    hugs,
    Sue

  10. Dear Becky, I'm so sorry you have been sick. We have just gotten over colds here. How lucky you are to be able to sit outside this time of year. I think I would get a little frost bite if I did that now. lol Mary asks about going outside, I know she gets tired of being inside but we do have some great kid places that are all indoors that I can take her too and she can play and get some excersize! Blessings to you today!

  11. Oh do I ever feel "scattered" sometimes!

Morning is my favorite part of the day. God is so good to refresh us and give us a new outlook when we quietly start our day with Him!

There are many mornings that I let life get in the way and my quiet time suffers, as does my attitude!

Thanks for a lovely post, Becky - hope you're feeling better!

  12. Such an inspired post. I'm a morning person, but sitting out on the porch in 8 degree weather just doesn't work. I'm happy you got to and at the same time bless me with your words.

  13. Oh what a gift HE has given us in the nature that surrounds us! I love this old hymn and when I was in high school we sang it in a local "Up With People" group I was in.
Now, of course, the words mean so much more to me. Hope you and Maddy feel MUCH better!

  15. What a beautiful post. We all get scattered at times. Your words are so inspiring. Time alone with God is always such a sweet balm to our soul.

I didn't know that song was written as a hymn :-)
    Blessings,

  18. ARHHHH I should have read this, this morning when I was making myself sick over a presentation that ended up NOT being a presentation at all! OH WHAT LITTLE FAITH! But after thoughtful prayer and knowing that anything that came from my mouth would be taken in good context, another (very nice person) praised my work....patted me on the back, and not much more needed to be said in the meeting! Thank you God......(he does take care me!)

  19. Becky, this is completely off topic from your beautiful post but when you mentioned Windows Live Writer, I was curious what format you have used to get the larger photos on your blog. Several bloggers have offered info about how to do it when using Blogger to compose posts but I am not aware of anyone who has explained how it's done when using WLW. Can you/will you explain the steps for getting larger photos to me? Unfortunately, I'm not very computer savvy. :( Thanks! mycottageofbliss(at)yahoo(dot)com.

  21. A wonderful post as usual, Becky. I sometimes think I should be the poster girl for scattered, lol!

We can never go wrong starting our day with God.

Praying for you and yours, dear Becky.

ps Enjoy that FL weather. Here in the corn we are about to be hit by a major winter storm.
