I’m Working On it!!

It is the Friday before Thanksgiving, ya’ll!!!  Can you believe it??

I am steadily working towards that day so I can eliminate the stress I sometimes encounter with preparations.

FINALLY got to work on my place cards.  I really like them, even though they are not exactly what I pictured in my mind’s eye.  I had such a difficult time finding the papers that I imagined I would find easily.

I still have several to make but here are the finished ones.  What do ya think?

The paper with the name printed on it was a bit too bright so I toned it down by sponging on some antique gold ink.  I just couldn’t find a paper that went better…kind of frustrating, but I think they will look so pretty on the table.  They are pictured here on the tablecloth I will be using for our dinner.

I LOVE the background paper which isn’t really paper at all…it is more like cardboard, so I should be able to use these for a couple of years.  It came scalloped and with the holes punched in it!  A little pricey at $1.99 per sheet, but because they are SO sturdy, I think I will get what I paid back out of them!

Ribbon was also difficult.  And believe me when I say that I have a substantial ribbon stash already!!  Right size in right color…this was the ONLY one!!  But I do like it!!

At this point I don’t think I am going to do a menu.  I think instead I will have either a poem or a list of a few things I am thankful for in each person placed on the plates.

So how are your preparations going?

Hope you have an absolutely FAB Friday, my friends!

Be a blessing!!
Becky

  1. You did a great job on the placecards!
And the paper, ribbon, and tablecloth all coordinate beautifully!

This year my sister-in-law is doing Thanksgiving at her house, so I only have to bring a few dishes along.

I just read your post about your sister-in-law, I'm so sorry, I had no idea. Such a tragic thing for all involved, such a devastation to your family. You are in my prayers, I'm sure this time of year is especially difficult on the family.
But I also know your steadfast Faith sustains you.

    Love and Prayers,
    Eileen

  2. Becky they are beautiful. I love your idea to put some things you are thankful at the plates. Your family and friends are so blessed to have you! Yes we are!! Have a wonderful Thanksgiving. We are heading out to Utah for dinner and fun with the kidslets. I am going to miss the dinner here at home but we will fully enjoy it at Jen's house. It will be great.

  6. The cards look wonderful! I think the idea with putting what you are thankful for each person is a wonderful, FAB idea. I'm taking the easy way out this year, just a quiet dinner with no fussing about the table. I just enjoy being around my crew. It's all that matters.

Hope you have a FAB weekend Becky! I'll be enjoying mine under a blankie while snuggling with some yarn.

    Hugs!

  7. The cards are as cute as can be, Becky! You have a winner with these. I understand doing ahead to lessen the stress. That makes perfect sense.

    Love to you...

  8. Sweet Place cards!! I love the print on the cardboard! Nice scallops on the edges too!
I have a hunch your stash is full of stampin up, and hobby lobby and Michaels supplies am I right?!

I hope you're Thanksgiving is wonderful Becky!
I must tell you; I'm THANKFUL to have met you through blogging and count you as a true blessing!
*sigh*-- Must admit, I have no preparations at aLL. None!! In fact, our house is tore up from one end to thee other. But it's okay! I'm not even sweating any bullets yet. We'll probably eat from chinet paper plates and drink from fruit jars! TRUE STORY!-- I'm relieved that our oven is working again and that birds gonna get stuffed and cooked no matter what! lol

I think I missed one more of your posts, so am off to read it now.
Have a blessed night... and thanks for your sweet comment at the shed!!

  9. Oh Becky, yours are soo pretty. I just got back from Michaels where I got the stuff to do mine. I was soo frustrated because there is nothing in the stores that is Thanksgiving and when I would ask people looked at me like I had 5 heads and Thanksgiving had been over for weeks instead of it hasn't even arrived yet...haha BUT!! I just got some premade placecards that I am adding ribbon to according to what table they are at, and a gold pen to write the names. My printer is broken so I am going to have to write them out. Sigh...sometimes I just picture things a certain way in my head and they are seldom like I saw them..I have two aprons left to make and my sewing machine suddenly developed a problem and I had to haul it in to be repaired. Thankfully, it was a minor problem and easily and expensively fixed, however the thing weighs a ton, and with my knees was quite difficult to carry in and out and then reinstall in my cabinet. However, it is all done and ready and right after this little blogging break I will get on it. Right in the middle of all my hustle and bustle my sisters girl had her baby and so I have spent the last two days in and out of the hospital. She is adorable however and definitely worth the interruption except of course NOW I'm really behind. I am trying to keep my head in the right place and remain unstressed, cuz there is nothing like a stressed hostess to ruin the "feel" of the day. Sooo, think I might have to spend some time in prayer too. Anyway, you look like you are coming along sooo nicely. I have my hubby to help this week-end with the food shopping, so I will make it I know. OK, think I better head to the sewing machine, haha. Have a great week-end. Blessings and hugs to you, Debbie

  12. Those are just beautiful! I know how it is when you have a certain idea in your head then trying to get the materials to make it happen. You have done a wonderful job. The poem or thankful list sound so awesome. I might do that too. My only plans for decorations is a special table cloth and cut mums in a vase from my garden. Also I will use a ceramic pilgrim figurine set that was my moms:) Take care dear friend! Elena

  16. Becky,
The placecards are just beautiful! We go to my parents' house for Thanksgiving, and then to my in-laws the day after. I would like to make some of those pretty placecards for my Christmas dinner, and the menus too! Even though on Christmas Day it is just the 7 of us! And we stay in our pjs all day! But I do cook a special meal for us, and the handmade placecards and menus would be a nice touch. Thanks for sharing your excellent ideas!
    Have a very happy Thanksgiving!

  19. Sweetest Becky.....

Yep, Jesus is THE one! I swear Sheila's note impacted my life TOTALLY.....I always had God on a pedestal....now, that sounds irreverent as I write this and I don't mean it to be.....you know in a place of HIGH honor....and, even though I knew He was with me every moment I THOUGHT I had a personal relationship with Him.......I had never thought of having Him as my BFF....It's soooooo different to me. I will remember her sweet message FOREVER. I'm so grateful for all of the fabulous Christian bloggers out there...... like YOU! :-) You mean the world to me.

Now, about those DARLING little placecards. You did a beautiful job and they'll make your table look so special!

I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving and finish with the preparations in time to really enjoy your family on the big day!
