Incredible Edible Cell??

Madison is studying Botany this year along with some other homeschoolers and it is quite a fascinating subject!

I have learned things I didn’t know/remember!

It is a little demanding and in depth, and she had a
project she had to complete for the first grading period.

This project was F-U-N!  She had to make an
”Edible Plant Cell” that everyone could enjoy
eating once it was graded!

She chose to make hers out of cake…carrot cake that is,
in keeping with the Botany theme, and all other manner
of goodies to represent the different organelles that
make up each cell.

Here it is in all of it’s glory!

IMG_3832

She used sour worms, fruit roll ups, icing, sour straws, chunky colored sugar, a chocolate star, and a chocolate disc with sprinkles on it.

I thought she did a great job!  And she got an “A”!!

We all learn so much better when a little fun is involved, don’t we?

Let’s see…did you remember that plant cells aren’t round like animal cells?  If you did…go to the head of the class!! :)

***********************

Hope to visit you all in the next couple of days!   I’m trying to balance everything out with my new responsibilities, and it is a bit of a challenge!!

Thank you for understanding!

Would you please pray that I work out a schedule that helps me maximize the hours (and minutes) in my day??  Thank you so very
much.  I am open to hearing any suggestions you might have as well!

Hope your week is full of J-O-Y!!!

Love n hugs,
Becky

  2. It looks wonderful. What a great idea. I know what you mean about balance. I haven't posted in a week, and I'm just getting around to visiting blogging friends. Homeschooling is going well though :-) It just requires lots of time. I can definitely blog more in the summer than during the school year. I'll keep you in my prayers.
    Blessings,
    Marcia

  4. First, let me say that I have been praying that same prayer for myself about maximizing the hours. I can certainly remember to pray it for you too. I am open to suggestions as well.

But about the edible cell: LOVE IT. My kids had to do the cell, but not edible. What a clever, clever, idea. Hers is great.

  6. Excellent and Yummy job Madison! I did not remember the plant cells are not round like animals. I probably fell asleep in class or maybe was in the ladies room. I need to take a refresher course. :)

No worries Becky...take all the time you need to get your schedule balanced. I will definitely pray!

Hey is it cold in Florida yet? It 46 degree's here in Southeast Texas this morning! Burrr I can't believe it...not typical to be this cold here in early October. I think we might have another cold winter!

  7. Great job Madison! She defintiely deserved that A...Having the same problem over here for different reasons. Just isn't quite enough time is there? haha But everything eventually gets done I have learned. I just don't think too far ahead of myself. I will pray for sure for you. Hugs, Debbie

  8. What a fabulous and delicious idea!! She did a great job!! And I'll bet she will ALWAYS remember the parts of the cell.

I have fond memories of doing fun things like that in my homeschooling years. We also did alot of scrapbooking/notebooking of the things we had learned.

The only suggestion I can give you on the time management thing is to remember that not everything you want to do is a priority or something you NEED to do. That word "no" is a hard one, but sometimes it's necessary. I had to disengage from being involved in alot of activities and from too much going...otherwise, I was stressed out, ill, and joyless. So, seek the Lord about any commitment you make to be sure that it is a commitment he wants for you.

I had been thinking of you yesterday and wondering how you were. I almost emailed...so I'm glad you posted today so I could touch base.

    Love and hugs,
    Patti

  9. I absolutely love the cell cake! Really cool!

Not sure if I can help with the whole time thing during the day. I still have issues with it myself.

    Have a great day Becky!!!

  10. Good Morning Becky!

That edible cell was wonderful!! I can tell Maddie got her creativeness from you!! I will pray for you the same prayer for myself - that "God would establish the work of my hands" because really isn't that what we are working for - to glorify Him?!!! You are a blessing to me Becky and I think and pray for you often!!

    Blessings,
    Christine

  12. "Edible cell"-ha!--my first thought was cell phone!:) Whaaaaaa? But this is such a great way to make learning fun! You can have your lesson and eat it, too!:) Win win!

I just saw your sweet comment of concern that I haven't blogged for a while. Thank you so much for being so sweet. I haven't sat down to post mainly because of some computer issues, along with trying to get some homekeeping projects done. But I hope to update my blog here soon and get back with it.
    Love you dear friend,
    Linda

  13. Hi Girly,
Oh wow, what a fun way to learn Botany. I will have to show that pic to my Scott and see what he thinks about it. Oh yea, I forgot to tell you I finally asked Scott about the scales and he does have them and said you are welcome to them, he has gotten his moneys worth!! lol
He said they only weigh up to 5 pds. tho, so where you aware of that?? anyway, let me know if you want them, and I will try and get them as soon as possible. He is gone right now, but should return by tomorrow night.
Tell Maddie she did a super job on the cake and sure deserved that A, and ask her to please email me a piece!! lol
    Carrot cake, sure sounds good!!
Will be praying for your organization and scheduling. Just takes a bit to get adjusted sometimes.
    Happy Crafting,
    Love ya, Nellie

  14. My sweet and beautiful Becky....

Heck NO... I have not a single idea for maximizing the hours in the day. I'll be waiting to hear some great suggestions though. I don't know where those 24 hours even go. I am always treading water. YIKES!

Now, about this classy project. HOLY MOLY! I think I may have even "gotten it" if somebody demonstrated it like this... I think I barely passed biology. It was something about having to dissect a frog. Just couldn't do it. Gave me the hee-bee jeebies.

Have a wonderful day dear girlie!

  16. Cute cake, Becky!

I know the feeling. I am finding less hours in each day to do the things I love. So I haven't been posting. Mainly due to the insane amount of things backed up from last month to this due to Fred's surgery and recup. I pray you find a solution. If you did, let me know about it. LOL!

    XO,

    Sheila :-)

  21. What a cool lesson! Madison certainly did an "A"job for sure!

I'm not doing too well here with the "balance" thing so I can't offer any advice, but I can offer prayers.

  22. The sciences were never my strong subject in school. Maybe if the projects had been more like this one I would have made better grades. When there's food involved, you have my undivided attention! Lol. Seriously, two thumbs up to Madison. This was very creative!

I think we can all relate to not enough hours in the day. Just do the best you can and try not to sweat what you don't get done. :)

    WOW, what a great job!
I bet Madison will remember this lesson for many years and may even surprise you and choose one of the sciences to pursue! =)
Love ya and praying for you organization and time management. Wish I had some good suggestions but I feel as harried as the next woman trying to juggle work and family.

  31. Great job your dear girl did on the cell/cake (???) I'm sure it was lots of fun to eat too! I too and trying, trying, trying to get some balance in my life/time. There never seems to be enough to do everything I want to do. (I get SO annoyed when I hear people say they're bored!)I'm in the midst of getting ready for a holiday show and it seems every minute is going into it--my blog reading has suffered lately! Thanks for taking the time to visit ButtermilkCottage. I'm envious of your great sewing machine cabinet find! Have a great week!

  33. She did a great job! And how nice to use a cake so you all could enjoy it later! I remember when my daughter had to do a project just like this and used a styrofoam ball. Hers also came out nice and she received an A also. Hope your weekend was good!
